Pearson's  Trivia

Family business founded in 1938 by Paul Pearson, Sr. and his wife, Helen.
Pearson's Edina Restaurant established at 50th & France, April 1973
Operated by Marston and Maureen Pearson,
their son, Phil Pearson, and son-in-law, Catalin Dima

Paul Pearson, Sr. and his wife, Helen started in business in 1938.  Their first restaurant was the Town Talk Cafe at 38th Street and 23rd Avenue.  This restaurant was a popular spot, right next to the busy Nile Theater.  Paul Sr. used to compete with the theater owner to see who could sell more popcorn.  Ice cream cones were sold out the back door of the diner ~ the beginning of the drive-in era.  In the 1940's the Pearson's  built and operated The Town Talk Diner at 27th and East Lake Street.  The Town Talk remained in the family until it was sold in 1975.  In 1956, Pearson's Drive-In opened at Hiawatha Avenue & Minnehaha Parkway.  Once again, the Pearson's were servicing customers at their cars.  They were the first in the Midwest to have the new electronic ordering system.  Patrons could place their orders for burgers and fries over a speaker, without having to leave their car.  It was a tremendously successful business, famous for great food such as Strawberry Pie, Banana Cream Pie, and of course, the Famous Big Burger.  Located on the edge of Minnehaha Creek, right across the street from Minnehaha Falls, the Drive-In was a popular place for young and old alike.  While still in high school, Maureen (Pearson) started her restaurant career, as a car-hop at Pearson's Drive-In.  This is where she met her future husband, Marston Pearson. The Drive-In closed in 1973 because the land was purchased by the Highway Department.  In 1972, Paul Sr. invited son, Marston, to enter the family business and remodeling of the property at 50th and France began.  In, April of 1973, after remodeling was completed, Pearson's Family Restaurant opened its doors.  Just one month later, Marston and Maureen were married and have been living the restaurant business, ever since.  Initially, the Pearson family operated just the coffee shop area, and rented out  the rest of the building to other businesses. They realized very quickly that more space was needed to service their customers.  Expansion began.  In 1975, the Oak Room opened with its grand stone fireplace and custom stained glass windows. In 1981, the opening of the Oak Room West completed the restaurant you enjoy today.

Over the past 37 years, the Pearson family has been striving to bring you
